Scripture Reading: Psalm 1
I remember being at a place where I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do in my life, career wise. I only knew that I wanted to do what I was “called” to do. So I sat around waiting to hear from God concerning what he wanted me to do, never heard anything, and never settled on anything. I went to my pastor about it and he told me to study Psalm 1. Here’s what I got from it.
Life often places us in situations where the decisions we face feel heavy, confusing, or overwhelming. In those moments, we want some assurance that the choice we make will bring peace and not regret. Psalm 1 tells us that when we live as true disciples of Jesus, our decisions are positioned for God’s blessing!
The scripture describes a person who follows God wholeheartedly. Someone who refuses to follow the crowd or be influenced by ungodly voices, but instead delights in the Word of the Lord. This person is steady, rooted, and spiritually nourished. The Scripture says they are “like a tree planted by streams of water,” and then adds, “whatever they do prospers.” This is what stood out to me. This is not a promise of a trouble-free life or instant success, but a promise that God will order the steps of those who walk closely with Him.
When you live as a disciple of Jesus, His Word becomes the wisdom you lean on, His presence becomes the peace you stand in, and His voice becomes the guide you trust above all others. As you stay aligned with Him, your life becomes stable like that tree, unshaken by circumstances.
God honors those who honor Him. When you choose righteousness, obedience, and faithfulness, you position yourself for His blessing. Your decisions prosper not because you are perfect, but because you are planted by streams of water.Â
So whatever tough choice you’re facing today, draw close to God. Stay in His Word. Keep walking in His ways. Trust that as you live as His disciple, He will cause the path you choose to prosper. Your steps are ordered, your life is planted, and your decisions are covered by His wisdom. He makes ALL things work together for your good.
Prayer
Lord, guide me as I make decisions, big or small. Help me stay rooted in Your Word and committed to following You as Your disciple. Let my choices reflect Your heart, and let my life prosper according to Your will. Give me clarity, peace, and confidence to move forward, knowing that my steps are blessed when I walk closely with You. Thank you that I am like a tree planted by rivers of water. Thank you that whatever I do prospers! In Jesus’ name, amen.
